Where They Were

Where They Were is a photographic project exploring presence, absence, and the emotional weight of place. An old wooden chair is positioned in carefully selected locations around Malta where foreigners were killed, transforming these sites into spaces of reflection. These are not random settings, but places marked by loss, memory, and often overlooked histories.

The chair was chosen for its symbolic qualities, it can suggest the human body, waiting, memory, and someone who is no longer there. Its presence alters the atmosphere of each environment, adding depth and tension to otherwise ordinary spaces.

Through the relationship between object and location, the project examines how meaning can linger within a landscape, even when nothing visible remains.
